An abandoned palace-like garden near my hotel. With the pond, fountain and terraces it must have been a happy place. I tried to ask the locals which was this place, but none speaks Chinese and I don’t understand any Uyghur…

Kashag doesnt sound like Chinese, I had to google the name, because I thought it is somewhere on the borders with Kyrgyzstan. I was almost right – its near borders with Tajikistan š
but in deed, looks or could one day look very prety š
You are right danulik, it neither feels or looks like a Chinese town at all – more like a Khazak city I think. It’s still kind of a hidden jewel, since not a lot of tourists know the place. But it’s really a fun place to be.
